Cultural Practices
The majority of culture in Bridgewater is Irish and Italian. They have many practices that we have already read about. For example the Irish have many classes for step dancing in order to portray there culture to the US. Step dancing originally came to the United States in about the early 1900's. Irish immigrants brought it with them from their home land in order to keep some culture from their home. They would practice it in cities and perform it at pubs. Now a days there a plenty of dance studios specifically for Irish step dancing to keep the culture of it alive. Also along with Irish step dancing the Irish had brought over the fiddle and other instruments. These quickly became popular in the United States and had caught interest of us quickly. Modernly there are pubs and other sorts of places that are known to have Irish culture because the Irish liked to drink so much. Also Irish people back home practiced lots of choral music which was performed for centuries along with an Irish harp that was a very popular music instrument back in the homeland of Ireland. Bridgewater has its own handful of pubs that have live performances. Next to the Irish culture in Bridgewater there is Italian culture.
When the Italians came over to the United States they had also brought many cultural pieces over. In example they brought over flute like instruments and even some bag pipes with them, which also quickly caught popularity in the United States. They also prominently brought over a style of rock to the United States towards the 1950's. Back home the Italians practices a lot of contemporary dance which was different from the lyrical and ballet dances that were practiced in the United States. It was also extremely different from the dances practiced in Ireland which was Step dancing mentioned from earlier. Also in Bridgewater there is an Italian club which holds festivals and traditional Italian courses such as pastas. Along with contemporary dancing the Italians practiced a lot of Sicilian dances and songs which where typically performed in local music halls, and occasionally as recital pieces for entertainment.
