Music and Dance
Music in the Irish culture pertains something that is still very common now called Irish step dancing. "Irish stepdance is a style of performance dance with its roots in traditional Irish Dance It is generally characterized by a stiff upper body and quick and precise movements of the feet. It can be performed solo or by groups." Bridgewater has a high amount of Irish demographics so when going through town you can see all the different pubs and groups that they have. Italians on the other hand have brought over dances and traditions that included Sicilian dances. They also had brought over flute like instruments to the United States, and put on plenty of performances that quickly became popular after their arrival. In Bridgewater there are plenty of Irish pubs in which most play live music. In example there is a pub in Bridgewater called Bogarts Pub that has themed music nights throughout the week and is a lively place where music and dance can be represented. At Bogarts they also have live music performances where anyone can play at the pub. An art and music festival is also seasonally held in Bridgewater were all different cultures can perform and it happens right at Bridgewater State University. Throughout the town there are also lots of Italian restaurants through Bridgewater that represent the culture through food and the music played in the restaurant. There is even an Italian American student association that helps students to celebrate holidays in their culture and other cultures.
